As the eastern gateway to Hamburg’s HafenCity district, the development of the Ericusspitze is highly significant in planning terms and is intended to fulfil one objective above all else: to become a landmark. The design for the Ericus-Contor by the Danish architect Henning Larsen is an impressive achievement for ABG.
Dominant in terms of sheer size and transparent in its use of materials, the office and commercial building opens up to both the city centre and the Speicherstadt districts. The building comprises a red brickwork plinth to create the visual connection with the historic Speicherstadt warehouse buildings and a glazed double façade with full-height windows which sets contemporary accents within the emerging HafenCity area.
