NEW GRANDEUR for Wolfsburg: laying the foundation stone for BERLINERHAUS

Wolfsburg, 27 May 2020 – The foundation stone for the BERLINERHAUS building in Wolfsburg has been laid today. Together with Lord Mayor Klaus Mohrs, Mr Ulrich Höller, Managing Partner at ABG Real Estate Group, and Prof. Dr Falk Hecker, Managing Partner at Hecker GmbH, initiated the construction in the heart of the city. The landmark complex, comprising an office tower and a stylish budget hotel, will be built in excellent location right next to the Berlin Bridge. Construction of the approximately 9,639 sqm complex is set to be concluded by 2022.

The elegant office tower, 45 m high, will sport a delicate façade of glass and steel. Three attractive, two-storey 'sky lounges' will offer visitors a unique view of the AUTOSTADT and Wolfsburg Castle. Twelve full storeys will host approximately 6,750 sqm of flexible office space for future tenants, within walking distance of the city centre and the main station. The complex is completed by two transverse five-storey blocks for the hotel, situated on two-storey pedestals. The hotel will offer 260 rooms and around 9,500 sqm of rental space. Around 170 parking spaces will be available.

To make the BERLINERHAUS project a reality, ABG Real Estate Group –with more than fifty years of experience in spectacular landmark developments at Germany's prime locations – and the long-established Wolfsburg-based family-run Hecker GmbH, bringing profound local expertise, joined forces – making a perfect match.

Klaus Mohrs, Lord Mayor of the City of Wolfsburg, says: "With the BERLINERHAUS, an office and hotel building will be developed in a location of great importance for Wolfsburg’s history, definitively upgrading the area between the Berlin Bridge and Maybachweg. This stretch of land has been lying idle long enough. We are looking forward to the new buildings, which will make the former compound of the Naturstein Billen GmbH shine with a new splendour.”

Ulrich Höller, Managing Partner at ABG Real Estate Group, said: "Today, we are laying the first stone for a new landmark in Wolfsburg. This building complex adds a new chapter that completes the city's history of modern architecture."

Prof. Dr Falk Hecker, Managing Partner at Hecker GmbH, said: "All of us can look forward to a great new building that will add new grandeur to Wolfsburg. I envy those who will be moving in!"

Architectural firm Stauth Architekten have been retained for planning the project. NINETY NINE Hotels, a subsidiary of the Hamburg-based Centro Hotel Group, has been enlisted as the hotel operator. Centro Group currently operates 53 hotels in 19 cities across Germany. Hotels of the NINETY NINE brand can be found, for example, in Munich, Heidelberg and Wuppertal. Construction work started in February 2020. Köster GmbH is the prime contractor. Marketing of office space at the BERLINERHAUS has begun.
