Topping-out ceremony for BERLINERHAUS in Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg, 30 June 2021 – Today sees the topping-out ceremony for the BERLINERHAUS building in Wolfsburg. Together with Lord Mayor Klaus Mohrs, project partners Mr Ulrich Höller, Managing Partner at ABG Real Estate Group, and Prof. Dr Falk Hecker, Managing Partner at Hecker GmbH, will conduct the ceremony for the landmark complex in the heart of the city. In an excellent location right next to the Berlin Bridge on a total area of approx. 22,000 sqm, a landmark office tower will be completed by mid-2022 together with a stylish design budget hotel, already rented out on a long-term basis at the end of 2020 to property investor and operator Premier Inn.

Klaus Mohrs, Lord Mayor of the City of Wolfsburg, stated: “This building complex, whose architectural design I personally find highly appealing, has been constructed as a new landmark in an important and city-central location. It lies at a major junction for the city to the north and south of the Mittelland Canal, and can be seen from quite a distance to the west and east along the railway line. It marks a successful start to – and could almost be taken as a symbol of – the further development of our inner city to the east beyond the Berlin Bridge. Now that the transformation has started, other new buildings will soon follow.”

Ulrich Höller, Managing Partner at ABG Real Estate Group, said: “With the topping-out ceremony for BERLINERHAUS today, which takes place as scheduled despite the pandemic, we are entering the home stretch towards the completion of this landmark complex. With the BERLINERHAUS, we are contributing to the qualitative growth of Wolfsburg as a prospering business location.”

Prof. Dr Falk Hecker, Managing Partner at Hecker GmbH, said: "We are impressed and would like to thank all those involved for their commitment and professionalism in the planning, urban development and construction. Through this successful interaction, the BERLINERHAUS is truly developing into 'Wolfsburg's new greatness'."

Dr. Michael Hartung, Managing Director Development of Premier Inn Holding GmbH: "We are very excited about our project in Wolfsburg, the VW city that is experiencing strong, high national and international demand. I am particularly proud that we are part of another mixed-use development here. I strongly believe in this promising concept, which is characterised by different types of use. With this architectural landmark ensemble called BERLINERHAUS, our partners, the ABG Real Estate Group and Hecker GmbH, are enhancing this prominent location for the long term."

As already announced:
The elegant office tower, 45 m high, will sport a delicate façade of glass and steel. Three attractive, two-storey 'sky lounges' will offer visitors a unique view of the AUTOSTADT and Wolfsburg Castle. Twelve full storeys will host approximately 6,500 sqm of flexible office space for future tenants, within walking distance of the city centre and the main station. The complex is completed by two transverse five-storey blocks for the hotel, situated on two-storey pedestals. The hotel will offer 260 rooms and around 8,000 sqm of rental space. Around 170 car parking spaces will be available.

To make the BERLINERHAUS project a reality, ABG Real Estate Group – with more than fifty years of experience in spectacular landmark developments at Germany's prime locations – and the long-established Wolfsburg-based family-run Hecker GmbH, bringing profound local expertise, joined forces – making a perfect match.

Architectural firm Stauth Architekten was commissioned with the planning of the project. The hotel will be operated by Premier Inn, a subsidiary of UK market leader Whitbread PLC, as a Premium Economy Hotel. It is scheduled to open its doors mid-2022.
