Construction begins on office building VOLTAIR in Berlin

  • Architecture highlight by ABG group and Felix Gädeke moves to realisation phase
  • Completion of the building with 31,000 m² is scheduled for 2021

Berlin, 20 February 2019.   The investment collective comprising of ABG Group and Felix Gädeke has begun construction on the office building VOLTAIR in Berlin. After receiving the construction permit in the winter of 2018 the realisation phase starts now. Construction on the foundation pit and the substructure have begun End of 2018 and are being conducted by Berger Grundbautechnik GmbH. Completion of the building located at Voltairestrasse in Berlin-Mitte is scheduled for 2021. The project development will be named VOLTAIR for further marketing. The name is based on the building’s spectacular, light architecture.

“With VOLTAIR we are developing a first class office and commercial building right in the heart of berlin”, explains Guido Wiese, Managing Director of ABG Allgemeine Baubetreuungsgesellschaft mbH. “Its one of a kind architecture will after its completion enrich the Capital’s skyline. Thanks to the good collabortation with the City of Berlin we could achieve the construction permit in a short time. Therefore we were able to also start the construction in a short time”, Wiese explains further. His colleague Gordon Gorski, Managing Director ABG Projektentwicklungsgesellschaft, adds: “We already received tangible letting enquiries. We are happy for this great interest even before construction begun. It shows that we created a sought after offer with our development.”

Felix Gädeke: “With VOLTAIR we offer a concept tailored to the needs of Berlin’s office market. The floorplans fit the requirements of modern tenants. They offer our tenants and their employees flexible space for a creative designing and using of their work environment.” For instance all workplaces, despite being oriented inwards or outwards, can be realised equally, Gädeke says. “The location and architecture of the building is address generating in Berlin-Mitte, right next to Alexanderplatz. Crossing the Jannowitz bridge, Kreuzberg is just a stone’s throw away.” Furthermore thanks to stops of all important public transports in direct vicinity, the connection to the building is excellent, Gädeke adds.

With VOLTAIR, ABG Group and Felix Gädeke are creating an office building with approximately 31,000 m² gross floor area. The architectural design by J. MAYER H. and partner is characterised by an overlapping, cubist, three-dimensional façade. Through a receding fugue it enters into a dialogue with the city. This caesura, spanning three storeys, traverses the façade and is partially connected in the affected storeys. It offers future users a high quality of stay with a variety of communication and outdoor areas. In addition to the office space, retail and catering spaces on the ground floor as well as an underground car park with 90 parking spaces are being built.
